Early life and career
Amy Dalby was born in Clerkenwell, London, 1888.
Early acting career
Amy often found herself playing eccentric spinster types of cameo characters in various films, stage shows and television programmes.
Amy played Private Godfrey's sister Dolly in the Battle of Godfrey's Cottage. This was her final actting; she died in London at the age of 81 two days after the episode was broadcast. After this her character was only ever mentioned in conversation during the show (particually about her upsidedown cake), until the eighth series when Arthur Lowe's wife Joan Cooper took over the role and made it more recurring.
