Judith Furse (4th March 1912 – 29th August 1974) played characters in the radio version of the Dad's Army episode The Loneliness of the Long Distance Walker.

Biography[]

Early life and career[]

Judith Furse was born in Camberley, Surrey. She was educated at St. Paul's Girls' School in Hammersmith, West London.

Early acting career[]

When Judith turned 12, she went to study acting at the Old Vic. By the 1940's she had become quite an experienced stage actress. In the film industry, she was well remembered for playing Sister Briony in the 1947 film, Black Narcissus as well as a fair number of Carry On films. In 1959, she made her telelvision screen debut in the ITV Play of the WeekDandy Dick.

Dad's Army[]

Judith played the chairwoman and a Swallow's Bank clerk in the radio version of The Loneliness of the Long Distance Walker.

Final years and death[]

Judith Furse died of a heart attack in Canterbury, Kent, August 29th, 1974. She was 62.
