Norman Bird played Bert Postlethwaite in the Dad's Army radio episode Present Arms.
Biography[]
Early life and career
Norman Bird was born in Coalville, Leicestershire. At 16 he left school and spent six months working in an office before going to study at RADA. During the Second World War, he served with RAF, being demobbed in 1947.
Early acting career[]
During the acting the profession, Norman found himself often being cast as hen-pecked, friendly men or small-minded officials.
Dad's Army[]
In the radio series' christmas special Present Arms, Norman played Bert Postlethwaite, replaced Barbara Windsor 's character from the TV episode Shooting Pains.
Final years and death[]
Norman Bird died in Wolverhampton, West Midlands on April 22nd, 2005, aged 84.
